BLOG

Hi friends it’s Charli again. Today I want to tell you a little bit about how helpful TransTape is for me, and how I deal with ‘situations,’ like this recent story for example. As all the cool kids know, I along with my amazing and wonderful partner Danielle make up Grave Girls, an alt rock goth industrial trans femme celebration of art, music, and all things that are hot.

So this past Halloween we were booked for an event at a new place. And it was actually in our home town for a change! I was feeling just fine about being essentially on the sidewalk of a fair sized southern city as publicly-facing and openly trans as I can be.

So I felt good that night, taping our boobs up to go out and put on our show!

I have a few different outfits for these shows. But easily one of my favorites is this really cute bat dress. But I have to be really careful with it, or I will have a wardrobe malfunction. So right off the bat TransTape is just part of our wardrobe. They are constantly improving their adhesive formula, it doesn’t cause any irritation (very important for ager the show!), and the removal oil apart from just working amazingly well… is kinda a really fun part of our post show routine. IYKYK.

The show was wonderful. Really just an intimate Halloween party with our friends, and we got an excellent reception from everyone who listened.

But like any good Halloween story, things do take a turn at a certain point. An event that could potentially be triggering. A situation that we all dread and fear. But as I am telling you the story, all the things worked out in the end. Spoilers.

So there we were. Our set was done. There was a DJ back on the decks spinning some bass music over the subwoofers. And surprise surprise the trans girls had to go pee.

So we’re in the bathroom stall taking turns doing our business, maybe being a bit loud with our banter. We had a few drinks, just played a great set. Had all the bassheads out there just mesmerized by actual live music. When all of a sudden a man’s voice comes booming out “Zip it up and GET OUT”.

Shock. Pause. Fear. Confusion. All the emotions come rushing up as we both froze in place. Breathe. Ground. Consider. Again he screams “zip it up and get out! NOW!”.

And that’s when I decided which route I would take to address this.

I opened up the door to the stall. Looked this cisman right in the eyes and said “she is peeing” kinda forcefully. And when I say “kinda forcefully” understand that in another life not that long ago I held a billet in the military that far outstripped my actual rank. So I had to develop the ability to be forceful but still respectful, and I was good at it. One more time while he was on his heels “SHE IS PEEING” I repeated more forcefully than before.

This poor man who knew us and who we are, at this point managed to eke out a labored “I am so sorry” as he turned the color of over ripe beets once he realized the situation as it stood. A few minutes later we walked out and found out the rest of the story. Some misunderstandings had been had, and this guy thought he was coming into a VASTLY different scenario with a MUCH different activity going on. We ended up making some new friends and getting a free drink out of it.

But it was a pretty freaky moment. And it was my confidence that got me through it. Confidence in myself. In who I am. In my identity. And not a little in that it was our band name on the flier and the only reason that business had their doors open at all that night. This is a Halloween show and we’re Grave Girls. It’s our party hun.

And one of the things that helps bolster that confidence is TransTape. I use it to pull my tits up and together and just lead with my breasts. Ya’ll when we go out on the stage we are hot. Trans femme empowerment is why we do what we do. And being able to look how we want to look is such a big part of that for us.

If there’s one thing that I’ve learned in all my adventures is that confidence will see you through so many situations. It’s actually wild. Confidence is your shield in a world where people only look at the surface. It’s why we do this after all. To give us confidence to be ourselves. It is why the two of us do all we do. To give confidence to other people that they can be themselves as well. And TransTape helps us do that. We don’t go on stage without it.
