Most Frequently Asked Questions
As you learn about our gender affirming system, we know that you probably have a lot of questions. We want to make sure that you have all the information you need to make applying TransTape as easy as possible!
If the question that you are looking for is not listed, please send it to us via the blue bubble on your screen and we will get back as soon as possible!
Yes! TransTape is waterproof and sweat-proof allowing for it to be worn through many vigorous activities including swimming in the ocean or a pool, showering and bathing. TransTape will dry naturally on its own but we suggest pressing the towel against your chest and squeezing as opposed to rubbing back and forth to dry as this will curl up the edges and lessen the strength of the adhesive.
Yes! Taping is very safe if done properly and with the correct type of tape. With all binding methods, there are precautions to take to ensure the best result and to lessen the chance of damage. Always use TransTape or kinetic tape that was intended for the body, NEVER use duct tape or Ace bandages to bind your chest.
Binding with these materials can restrict your ability to breathe and move properly. Ace bandages, in particular, are designed to constrict, so as you breathe, they get tighter and tighter and can really hurt you. Taping can be better than a traditional binder as it does not restrict, constrict or compress your body or organs at all. Taping allows for the full range of motion, mobility, and breathing. It is more discreet than binding as it does not cover the back, chest, or shoulders and is not visible under your garments.
TransTape was intended for multiple-day use and can be worn on average around 5 days depending on your level of activity and how often you are showering. We are firm believers in giving your skin time to breathe even just for overnight between uses.
There is no set guideline on how long to wear, just however long you're comfortable in it! We have some users who only wear it for a day or two and some who can wear it for a week. It really is a personal preference.
To test if you're skin has an allergy, apply a 2-inch strip to the area where you'll be using TransTape - usually under your arms or on your chest. Monitor the area for any itching or signs of reaction for a full 24-hours. It is imperative to perform this test strip to limit the potential allergic reaction to a small area of the body before the full use of TransTape.
Slight itching is normal as your skin gets used to having a foreign substance adhering to it. Pain and burning are NOT normal, and if you experience this, please follow removal instructions and discontinue use. It is important to follow our removal instructions for your test strip even if you do not have a reaction to keep your skin healthy!
Many people with larger chests find it very helpful to lay down during their first strip application. This lets gravity assist in the "flattest" for your body type placement of your chest. For large and plus size start with 4 blue lines with our large size tape and adjust from there. You don’t want it to stretch onto your back, just under your armpit. You should only need 2 pieces per side, 3 max. Less is better.
It’s also essential to never pull or tug TransTape to get it off the skin, and this means that the bond is still attached and you will for sure experience pain as your top layer of skin will be sensitive upon an improper removal even resulting in blistering type irritations. Check out our video on our YouTube Channel showing a model that is a chest size DD.
TransTape comes in 3 sizes and 4 skin tones to best fit your needs. Sizing is a personal preference but here is a quick guideline: typically, A/B cups will want to use the small, 3-inch wide roll as you will not need as much skin coverage. B/C cups typically benefit from the medium, 4-inch size as it tends to cover the breast well with one strip. D/DD+ and larger tend to enjoy the large, 5-inch wide size as it helps to cover a large amount of skin and tissue with a single piece, but we have had many larger chested people report back that they prefer to use the small size because it is easier to manage.
The creator of TransTape was personally a “long” C cup and he enjoyed using the medium size on the majority of his chest tissue and the small size to smooth out the extra fat that would squish out the top. If you need help deciding which size is best for you, please feel free to reach out to our live chat!

If you are experiencing the adhesive being left on your skin, these simple tips can help you prevent and deal with this sticky situation. The bond must be released from your skin prior to removal, but if the removal oil is on for too long, the adhesive will release from the fabric as well, staying behind on your skin.
This can be prevented by cutting down on your sit time with the Removal Oil to 1-3 minutes. If the bond has not been released from your skin during this amount of time, pour extra oil as you slowly assist in releasing the bond from your skin.To remove the left behind adhesive, you can pour extra oil onto a washcloth and use that washcloth to rub away the extra adhesive.
You can also soak in a warm bath with the removal oil before you remove your tape to help prevent leftover sticky residue. If this doesn't work ,we suggest using a new and clean razor with plenty of oil to slowly lift the adhesive from the top layer of your skin.
Painful removal & blistering are NOT normal. Please make sure you do a test strip to rule out any allergies. This can be done by cutting a small 1”x1” square of TransTape and placing it where you normally will be using the tape. Then, monitor the area for any itching or signs of reaction for a full 24-hours.
Please see the test strip FAQ article for more information.Painful removal or blistering is often caused by improper removal or overstretching the tape. It is imperative to use our removal oil or some type of body-safe oil (Vitamin E oil, Coconut Oil, etc.) to remove TransTape. The removal oil allows the bond to release from the skin prior to removal and helps prevent injury to the skin.Overstretching TransTape, especially on the edges, could lead to the tape pulling in on itself over the time of use causing friction under the tape and blistering to form.
Other potential causes of reaction/blistering could potentially be a slight skin reaction or allergy to the adhesive used for the bond on TransTape. We do suggest using the Repairing Salve on your skin to assist in the healing process. If your allergy isn't serious enough to stop using the tape, we suggest applying a thin layer of milk of magnesia to the skin before you apply, allowing it to fully dry before the tape touches your skin. This creates a thin yet helpful barrier between your skin and the bond that still allows for normal use.
If the skin is raised after proper removal with removal oil, we suggest making wear more comfortable by applying a thin layer of milk of magnesia to protect the top layer of the skin before application.
This is gentle enough to still allow the skin to adhere to the tape through the bond adhesive, and it creates a barrier between the skin and the tape to lessen the chance of any irritation or itchiness.Apply the milk of magnesia to your skin and allow it to completely dry. Then, apply your tape as normal.
TransTape adheres to the skin through a medical-grade acrylic adhesive that is activated through heat. It is imperative for the tape to be rubbed vigorously upon application to activate the skin to adhesive bond. As with all adhesives, there are a few variables that can block or weaken the strength of the bond. Many popular body washes and lotions contain artificial paraffin waxes that eventually build up on the surface of the skin.
Unfortunately, this alone can weaken or not allow the bond to fully adhere to the skin. We suggest light exfoliation as well as cleaning your skin with isopropyl alcohol and allowing it to completely dry to remove oils prior to application for the best results.Another variable that can cause the tape to release after an application is if the tape is overstretched. This will cause the tape to pull in on itself, weakening the bond. You want to make sure there is zero tension on the first and last two inches of TransTape.
