About The Art:
"This piece is titled Handmade, created with oil paint on TransTape adhered to canvas. I made this work in the spring of 2025 and it was first published in Fruitslice in the fall of 2025. With this work, I wanted to express the deliberate creation/repair of a trans person choosing how to make their body their own. The tape's material resemblance to a bandage evokes themes of repair, healing, and growth, both physical and emotional.
I wanted to highlight the vital role of TransTape in the figure's "repair" of their body by covering the canvas with it. I also deliberately pictured the figure's back rather than their front--I wanted to give them privacy, to express that trans people should be in control of what they share about their transition/who gets to see their bodies etc.
